Being A Camp Counselor

Camp All-American is looking for camp counselors who desire to use sport and play as a strategic tool to invest in kids' lives and reach their hearts with the Truth of Jesus Christ, what we call "playing with a purpose."

Covenant Groups

Who's Involved?

All counselors employed by Camp All-American in Junior, Day, or O-Zone camps. This program is required as part the employment contract with Camp All-American.

What is the Covenant Program?

Our counselors and staff pour themselves out everyday at Camp All-American. This program is our way of giving back to you. This program is specifically designed to challenge staff in their walks with the Lord and is divided into two parts. One in intended to encourage and equip our counselors in the different facets of the Christian life by focusing on topics like The Church, Evangelism, and Spiritual Gifts, the other is to offer a more personalized, mini-discipleship group of about six men of women that can pray for each other, worship together, and hold each other accountable to the disciplines of the Christian walk.

When Do They Meet?

Counselors meet every Tuesday and Thursday night (6:30 pm - 8:00 pm) for the duration of the summer.

Where?

Tuesday night session include either a speaker at the church or a social off-campus. On Thursday nights the individual discipleship groups meet together in various places after camp. Most groups either go out for dinner or meet at the church.

Camp Counselors: Positions Available

Junior Camp Counselor

Junior Camp Counselors are responsible for a group of eight campers ages 4-6. You'll lead your group through an action-packed day full of fun activities. Our specialty coaches introduce your campers to the skills and techniques of Basketball, Soccer, and Tumbling, Art, Karate, and Junior Jazzercise. The rest of your day is filled with swimming in our Junior Olympic size pool, having fun on our exciting playground, exploring nature on a hike through the woods, visiting the camp store, singing songs in assembly, and leading a daily Bible time with your group.

Day Camp Counselor

Day Camp counselors are responsible for a group of eight campers in grades 1st - 5th. You'll lead your campers in all kinds of amazing activities: swimming, bouldering wall, high-energy assembly, freedom soccer, four-square, and a variety of other sports. Day Campers have the awesome opportunity to customize their week buy choosing a specialty to fit their unique interests and to strengthen their God-given talents and abilities. Under the supervision of a head Specialty Coach, Day Camp Counselor specialize in one of the following areas: Tumbling, golf, soccer, basketball, art, ropes course, wilderness, cheerleading, baseball, drama, karate, football, or sampler.

O-Zone Counselor

O-Zone is designed for fun, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Each week O-Zone Counselors lead eight 6th-8th graders through exciting activities including our challenge ropes course, a variety of sports and games, swimming, and hanging out in The Bricks (the Jr. and Sr. High facility at Perimeter). Counselors also take campers on trips within walking distance to place like Regal Cinemas and Starbucks. Counselors will challenge campers to grow in their leadership and in their faith during our in-depth study of God's Word and daily worship time.

Camp Counselors: Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the staff come from?
Last summer we had 146 counselors. While most of them are from Georgia, we had counselors from twelve other states (Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, New York, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania) and as far away as Poland.
Do I need additional health insurance?
Yes. All employees are automatically covered by Worker's Compensation Insurance at the time they are hired. Camp All-American will pay 100% of the premiums for this important coverage. However, this coverage applies only to work-related injuries and illnesses. Therefore, it is imperative that you have personal coverage. If you are not currently covered, we can assist you in getting short term medical insurance. For example, a 21 year-old male could be covered for three months for about $175.
How old do you have to be to apply as a counselor?
Counselors must be 18 years old and/or a high school graduate by May 2008. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors in high school may apply for our Servant Team.
Do I have to work all summer?
Camp runs for ten consecutive weeks. Counselors typically request two weeks off per summer, however, counselors may work all ten weeks. Counselors who will need additional weeks off must seek approval before being hired.
How much do counselors get paid?
Starting pay for counselors is $300 per week. Counselors will receive five pay checks during the summer. The first check is received on June 15. No advanced pay option is available.
How many campers will be in my group?
Each counselor is responsible for a group of eight campers.
What if I live out of state?
We do have a host family program to house counselors from out of state. For more information click here.

Camp Counselors: Host Families

While the majority of our counselors come from Georgia, last summer we had counselors from eight other states and as far away as Canada. Perimeter Church families with a finished basement or extra bedroom volunteer to host out of state counselors for the summer. Counselors must submit a housing application before being placed with a host family. Housing is not guaranteed.

Eric Ashley I have loved having a host family for camp. My host family has asked me to stay with them for all three years at camp and has truly become my second family. We even get together for lunch sometimes during the year and always keep in touch. I loved having a family that cared so deeply for me and prayed for me on a regular basis. I am truly blessed to have the them as part of my family now.

Please take advantage of our online reference form system. If you choose paper forms, these forms are to be given to your three references with an envelope addressed to Camp All-American so that he/she can send the form directly back to us.

Servant Leader Team

The servant team is a program designed specifically for high school students! This program allows you to serve God, develop as a leader and gain valuable job experience. The Servant Team is the "behind the scenes" team of camp. There are two parts to the Servant Team. The first is the Lifeguard Team and the second is the Operations Team. You can find a description of each position below. During the week, students will have the opportunity to connect with counselors and campers. Students will be completing projects, interacting with children, having daily devotionals, hanging out with other students and much more!

This is more than a summer job. It's a program in which the students will experience spiritual growth while having fun in a team environment. Space is very limited. To learn more, contact Stephen Ready at stephenr@perimeter.org.

Lifeguard Division:

  • A team of 6 lifeguards will work every week. Up to 10 lifeguards will be hired for the summer.
  • Lifeguards will be trained and certified prior to camp starting during mandatory training.
  • Daily devotions, bi-weekly socials, on-going job training
  • Lifeguard at our new pools! Each lifeguard will be responsible for watching and protecting an area of the pool which could include the new Zero Entry Pool or the Main Activity Pool.
  • Only current Juniors (High School) can apply
  • Pay: $250/wk
  • Dates: May 27th-August 1st
  • Must work at least 5 full weeks of the summer

Operations Division:

  • Team of 12 high school students will work every week. Up to 20 students will be hired altogether.
  • Daily spiritual development, bi-weekly socials with Lifeguard Team included.
  • Responsible for making sure the daily events and activities run smoothly at camp:
    • Making sure all campers have cool drinking water
    • Managing, maintaining, and selling items in the camp store
    • Running lunch time programming on Fridays
    • Set up and break down of all daily activities and sports
    • Office help
    • Ropes Course help
  • Pay: $175/wk for current Freshman and Sophomores, $250/wk for current Juniors (High School)
  • Must work at least 5 full weeks of the summer
  • Dates: May 27th-August 1st
  • Mandatory training the week prior to camp

Pre-Camp Counselors & Teachers

Pre-Camp is an exciting program designed specifically for children who aren't quite old enough to make it through a full day at Camp All-American. These little guys and girls have a great time spending two half days (either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am-1 pm) playing on the playground, enjoying water games (sprinklers, water slides, and more), hearing Bible Stories, learning songs during camp assemblies, and eating pizza on Wednesdays or Thursdays!
